#solidarity

We want express our solidarity with people in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) states who have been offended by the American-made film that some have interpreted as an insult to religious beliefs. The MENA region is rich and complex, full of nuance and diversity. American and international Western media sources have distorted and essentialized these countries, communicating that all protests in these states has been motivated by #MuslimRage, and that the entire Muslim world is currently reacting violently to communicate their hatred towards Western countries. The idea that American and Western media can speak about the “Muslim World” as a cohesive, unified place is impossible and wildly ignorant. We want to shatter the myth that all Muslims are raging and to stop the problematic perpetuation of stereotypes about the people who live in the MENA region.
